In case you haven't seen the BRIGHT RED lips in nearly every magazine ad, pinterest pin,
or TV and Film...
BRIGHT COLORED lips are IN!!
So, how's the trend wearing on you? Do you find your lip color everywhere but on your lips, by the end of the day does it look like your 3 year old applied it, or have you been too intimidated to even try applying any bright lip color at all?
Then we have the right post for you!
In 6 easy steps we can help you with your red lip dilemmas...
1.) PREP Lips!
- Perfect your canvas!!
- Be sure your lips are smooth and hydrated. I used to love "Lip Buff" from Bioelements, but alas that has been discontinued. So what I came up with is a "DIY" secret mix: a pinch (About 1/8t) {brown or white} sugar combined with 1/8-1/4t of olive oil or Jojoba oil + a drop of lavender essential oil, if desired. Gently rub mixture on lips and rinse with water. I do this 2-3x's/week, be sure NOT to over-exfoliate!!
- Apply Bioelements Instant Emollient
**I also use it every night as a "sleep-ware" for your lips treatment, wake up with soft , plump & hydrated lips!
2.) Prime your lips!
- Mirabella Primer for Lips and Eyes is great or you can use Bioelements Instant Emollient.
- To create a perfect canvas apply a small amount of under eye concealer to your lips and blend light with fingertips.
- This step will negate your natural lip color and allow whatever lip color you choose to apply to be it's truest.
- Think of coloring on a white piece of paper versus a pink/rose colored paper- the color will be truer and brighter just from this step alone!
- The trend lately has been to skip this part and just smear on lip gloss, yet if you want your lip color to have that precision look and to have staying power, you need to apply liner first and fill in the lips!
- It acts like a "glue" for the lip color as well as creating a base of color, so when you eat or drink the base color is under the color, like a "stain". When choosing to wear a Bright color this is a must!

4.) Apply Lipstick With a Brush
- The brush allows for precision application and keeps your lipstick free from contaminates.
- This step may seem awkward at first however with practice you will master it & will never go back to applying lipstick from the tube!
- Choose Matte Lipstick for ultimate wear!

- FYI this is NOT your Grandma's idea of Blotting!
- Load up a fluffy powder brush w/translucent powder and sepparate a tissue so you only have 1 ply
- Hold the tissue over slightly open mouth-DO NOT CLOSE LIPS!!! This will smear your lips!!
- Dust the tissue with the fluffy powder brush using light pressure.
- For longest wear, repeat applying lipstick and blotting- this will "push" color into lips.
- Using light pressure reapply lipliner along the the lip line.
- Might seem crazy, yet lip liner will act like a barrier and this step helps prevent lipstick from bleeding, a must for bright lip color!!
This may sound like a lot of fuss, yet once these steps are mastered they won't seem so overwhelming.
